agentkay started following you
K! It’s good to see you. Always very good to see you. Wait, are you wearing the- no? No. Ok. Good, that was close.
It’s nice to see you too, Griffin. What have you been up to?
I took the blame because it was easier for you.
And for the record, I left because I was needed somewhere else. In all cases. Not because things got too difficult.

Images. So many things flashing through his mind. Twenty-odd years of memories flooding back, too many things to comprehend. Every snippet immediately buried under the next as Double Kay’s mind was overloaded with all of the dormant information. And then suddenly it was over. Double…Double was extremely grateful for Clint’s presence as he clung tightly to the younger man until the pain subsided. “Shit…” he whispered hoarsely, still caught up in the memory. Finally it all cleared and he was able to breathe without the phantom sensation of a punctured lung. “How I got through that the first time, I have no idea. But I do not want to relive that ever again.”
And then he remembered the other presence in the room. His superior and father. The one man he’d always tried to be strong in front of, the one man he’d always worked hard to impress, regardless of his agency or identity. And here was Double a mess of broken emotions and memories, more unsure than ever of who he was. Being so raw in front of Clint was one thing, he welcomed his presence, but for his own father to see him like this? Double cast an uneasy glance toward the senior MiB agent who was silently watching the scene unfold. No doubt thinking how much of a waste Phil was.
Kay stood stoic as Clint kneeled near Double-no, Phil. Philip James Coulson. Agent K’s breath caught in his throat as the event ended, and his eyes softened. There had never been a better time to break his usual mask of granite. He slowly walked across the room, his shoes tapping the floor eerily as he made his way towards his son. He could have been menacing if it weren’t for the cracking, neutral expression on his face. He once said himself that the most destructive force in the universe was regret.
That was one force of nature that wouldn’t ever catch up to him.
“You won’t have to. Not when you’ve got a partner like him to look after you.” He briefly glanced towards Clint, with a nod. Kay extended a hand to Phil, in an offer to help him to his feet. The smallest hint of a smile could be seen, if you looked close enough. Perhaps Phil would be the only one to notice.
That was the intention, after all.
Clint had gotten worried when he had lost some contact with Double Kay/Phil. He felt that something was wrong, or was going to go wrong. So he decided to see if he could find out where the other man had gone, finding an unmonitored vent, he decided to crawl in and see if he could find the other. The vents were actually pretty clean so it helped him make his way through the building and towards any place he thought that Double would be.
Even though it had taken him some time to actually maneuver his way around, but he soon found Double in some strange room. Undoing the covering the vent, he pulled it in and slowly made his way through the opening and jumped down. Yes he didn’t have clearance to even be in the building, but that wasn’t going to stop him.
“So this is where you ran off too, I was starting to wonder if you had just disappeared off the face of the earth.” He chuckled softly. “Or at least my mind playing tricks on me.”
A slight flinch of his shoulders was the only sign Double gave that Clint had startled him out of his reverie. He turned, automatically bracing himself in case of attack, after all, anyone who felt it necessary to drop in from the ceiling was clearly not supposed to be here, and there weren’t that many benevolent parties that would be skulking around a place like this. But he instantly relaxed at the sight of Clint and the sound of his voice, though his expression remained one of disapproval.
“You shouldn’t be in here,” there was a soft edge to the sternness of his tone. “I’m not going to be held responsible for what happens if the MiB catch an unauthorised SHIELD agent lurking this deep in the facility. I’m amazed you even got as far as this.” But the small upward quirk of the corner of his mouth showed he was secretly glad Clint was here.
His gaze returned to the odd contraption in the middle of the stark white room. The only thing in this room other than the two men. Could that thing really bring back all of his memories? Would it hold the answers to his problems or make things worse? He wasn’t sure, but he hoped he was making the right choice.
“Transverse Magneto energy will course through your brain, unlocking information deep and dormant…” he murmured, as if repeating something he’d heard many times before. He crossed his arms. “I cannot guarantee that this will be immediately effective, considering how deep the neuralyzation is. Nor am I certain this is a good idea. If there was a reason for it…” he paused and shook his head. “No, I can’t go on feeling like I don’t even know myself.”
“I don’t handle authority figures to well. So when a sign says ‘STAY OUT’, I just gotta go in.” Clint chuckled as he walked around to look at the thing before walking back over to Double and smiling softly at him a bit. Especially when he saw the slight smile before listening to him speak once more.
If this thing could get his Phil back, then he was willing to risk the chance of it not working right away. But this was up to Double, not up to him, this wasn’t his life.
“Its your life, don’t do it for anyone else but yourself. I’ll still be here no matter what choice you make” He smiled softly and patted his shoulder softly. Just waiting to see what the other man would do when he decided to make his choice.
At that moment, Agent K himself stepped into the room. His stark footsteps echoed in the emptiness, and he glanced over to Clint. There was a hint of annoyance in his expression, and he shook his head. As much as he didn’t approve the Agent being inside the Men in Black headquarters, he had anticipated the event. In fact, he had expected this to happen sooner.
Kay put his hands in his pockets, and looked to his son. Without a word, he nodded to Phil. The elder Agent’s eyes were a bittersweet pool of reflection as he silently stood by the door, and waited for Philip Coulson to take his life back.
You needed to stay hidden for something to work. The world is safe because you were neuralyzed.
Is this something to do with my apparent death? Because Agent Cr-…Barton, said he was told by Fury…that all the Avengers were led to believe I had been killed. A spear through the chest to be exact.
They needed someone to Avenge.
*knits his brow together* So why not just go into hiding until it all blew over? Wait…so…I really worked with the Avengers? *raises a brow* Even…?
You weren’t sent into hiding because I wanted my son back.

sonofkay replied to your post: Kay. I have a question. And I want none of your beating around the bush and avoiding the answer I need. This is serious. Have I…was I…have I ever been married? Specifically to a man by the name of Clint Barton?
Right. So why is there a man by that name, who knows my real name, despite my never having met him. Who knew this person with my name intimately, was even married to him. *thinks for a moment* How exactly did I get this scar, again? *taps his chest*It was from a puncture wound when we fought that stray Kylothian. And if someone is claiming to know you that well, I suggest you neuralyze him and bring him to the nearest asylum.
I would agree, except too much of what he says seems to add up. And I feel like I know him, even though I don’t remember him. I…I feel lost. Just tell me. Have I, or have I not been neuralyzed? And none of your bullshit answers.
You were. For your own safety. You know where the deneuralyzer is, son. [starts to walk away]
*stares after him* My own safety? What own safety? What was so terrible that I couldn’t handle it?
